Entry into the course

There are no entry requirements for this qualification. It is preferred that the students have obtained a minimum of a School Certificate or equivalent. 

Course Overview

The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support, combining Ageing and Disability streams, is a comprehensive and nationally recognised qualification designed for individuals who aspire to work in community, home, or residential care settings. This course prepares students to offer person-centered support to people who may require assistance due to ageing, disability, or other reasons. 

This qualification is ideal for those looking to embark on a caregiving career, offering comprehensive training and real-world experience in supporting aged and disabled individuals. It opens a range of career opportunities in a growing sector and provides a foundation for further professional development. 

Engage with your studies online, or via face-to-face evening classes in Hillcrest. Our evening classes are offered two nights per week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) at 5:45pm to 8:45pm. 

Recommended Course Structure

To attain the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing & Disability), 15 units must be successfully completed comprising of nine (9) core and six (6) elective units.

  • CHCCCS040 Support independence and wellbeing
  • CHCCCS041 Recognise healthy body systems 
  • CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services 
  • CHCCS031 Provide individualised support
  • CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
  • CHCLEG001 Work Legally and ethically
  • HLTINF006 Apply basic principles and practices of  infection prevention and control
  • HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care

ELECTIVE UNITS 

  • CHCAGE011 Provide support to people living with dementia 
  • CHCAGE013 Work effectively in aged care
  • CHCCDIS011 Contribute to ongoing skills development using a strengths-based approach
  • CHCDIS012 Support community participate 
  • CHCDIS020 Work effectively in disability support
  • CHCPAL003 Deliver care services using a palliative approach
Work Placement

Students must undertake a minimum of 120 logged working hours within an Approved Service which will allow you to complete a range of applicable work tasks. 

Students are encouraged to locate their preferred placement facility independently, giving you complete flexibility on who it’s with and where. Collaboration Learning will then support students in this process in coordinating with the facility all of the paperwork and requirements to confirm placement.
